Rajan Chellapan

George Town, Penang

Brought in a 1970s Seiko 5 that had been sitting in a drawer for the better part of fifteen years. Khairul was straightforward about what was needed and what wasn't — no upselling. The watch came back running about three seconds a day fast, which for its age and calibre is quite good. The intake photographs were a nice touch I hadn't expected.

My father's old Tudor was in for the Heritage Programme after I inherited it. The timeline was longer than I expected — it took about fourteen weeks in the end — but they kept me informed throughout, and the condition report they produced is genuinely detailed. I learned things about the watch I had never known. Worth the wait.

Had the bezel service done on a dive watch with a very worn click. Two years of use had made it feel loose and imprecise. The result is noticeably better — the click is crisp again and the insert was replaced with one that matches the original specification well. Simple work, but done properly.

I was a little uncertain about travelling to Penang just for a watch service, but I am glad I did. The intake appointment was thorough and unhurried. They asked sensible questions about how I wear the watch and what I had noticed. The Watchmaker Service brought my ETA movement back to within a few seconds a day. Very satisfied.

Reasonable experience. The work was done well — my automatic ran about six seconds fast before service and is now essentially spot-on. Communication was good but a bit sparse mid-service; I would have appreciated one more update. That said, the end result is exactly what I wanted and the price was as agreed.

The Heritage Programme for my grandfather's Omega Constellation was handled with great care. They found a replacement crown that matched the original specification — I had been told by another repairer that it was no longer available, but Mutiara Tempo sourced one within a few weeks. The written report will be kept with the watch going forward.

Service Journeys in Detail

The Situation

1968 Longines Flagship

A family piece brought in after being found among a parent's belongings. The movement had not run for an estimated ten years. The mainspring was presumed degraded and the crown action was stiff with no clear cause. The client wanted the watch to run again without altering its original character.

The Work

Heritage Programme

Full disassembly revealed a fatigued mainspring and a corroded keyless works — the source of the stiff crown. Both were addressed. The case was cleaned conservatively without polishing. A period-appropriate replacement mainspring was sourced. The dial was left entirely untouched as it showed only light, even ageing.

The Outcome

Running to Specification

Movement returned to service within ±8 seconds per day — within design tolerance for this calibre and age. Crown action restored. Timeline: 16 weeks including parts sourcing. Client received a written condition report and photographic record of all major stages.

"I had not expected to ever see it running again. It now keeps better time than some of my newer watches." — client, Penang

The Situation

Citizen NY0040 Promaster

A daily-wear dive watch with a bezel that had become noticeably loose over three years of use. The click was no longer indexed reliably and the insert had developed a small chip near the twelve o'clock position. The movement itself was running normally.

The Work

Bezel Service

Click spring replaced. The existing ball-bearing was in acceptable condition and retained. A replacement insert matching the original specification was sourced and fitted. Alignment verified on completion. The movement was not opened — no full service was recommended or necessary at this point.

The Outcome

Restored Click and Insert

Bezel action restored to precise indexed operation. Insert replaced with correctly specified equivalent. Timeline: 9 days including parts delivery. Total cost: MYR 720 as quoted. No additional charges.

"Quick, as quoted, no surprises." — client, Kuala Lumpur
